The rough-skinned newt is a master of camouflage and surprisingly, highly poisonous. When they feel threatened, the pores on their skin release a neurotoxin that is in the same family as the blue-ringed octopus. Which means this adorable newt, that is small enough to use my macro lens on, could kill a large man if ingested. Or make a child very sick if the poison soaked-in through their palms, eyes or mouth.
It’s wild to think about why and how the newts evolved this way. To hold this thread/perception/insight and turn the gaze to ourselves…what interactions do we have/had in our lives where we are completely misunderstanding the intentions of the others and/or ourselves? How have these interactions/situations shaped us in ways that are not completely obvious or known? Do we choose to see what is easy and on the surface, rather than honoring their wholeness?
